Islam, an overview

Islam makes news headlines ever so often, but there are a few things many do not know about this religion.

The word Allah is a derivative of the Arabic word Al-ilah. During pre-Islamic times, Al-ilah was the name of the moon god who married to the sun goddess. This pagan god fathered several daughters, including Al-Lat, Al-Uzza and Mannat. The Quran mentions these three daughters as goddesses in Sura 53: 19-20.

The Arabs worshipped Allah the moon god, and 359 other pagan gods, at a temple called the Kabah in Mecca. Here, each god had its own idol. The Arabs worshipped these 360 pagan gods by observing 4 customs which all Muslims still observe today. I state these 4 customs in the next paragraph.

Bowing toward Mecca, they prayed at specific times during the day. They made a pilgrimage to mecca. To the poor, they gave alms. They fasted during the day for a month, which began and ended with the appearance of the crescent moon. The crescent moon was the symbol for the moon god Allah.

The above information shows that Islam is old Arab pagan religion under another name.
